Hole-by-Hole

Hole #1

The first hole at Winter Creek is a challenging Par 4 that is a slight dogleg left that plays to an elevated two-tiered green and is guarded by two large bunkers.

Caddy Tip:
To start your round, you’re faced with a tee shot that requires precision and length to leave you with a manageable approach into the heavily guarded green. A par on #1 to start your round is a big plus and can fill you with confidence heading into the remainder of your round.

Hole #2

This short, but challenging hole features bunkers on the left side of the fairway that come into play if you don’t hit an accurate tee shot.

Caddy Tip:
This short, but challenging hole features bunkers on the left side of the fairway that come into play if you don’t hit an accurate tee shot.

Hole #3

This short dogleg right par 4 can play uphill. The large, sloped green is heavily guarded by large bunkers.

Caddy Tip:
The key to playing this hole is to keep your tee shot left of the trees, and in the fairway, to leave you with a straightforward approach to the large green that is sloped back to front, so a “leave below the hole” location is ideal.

Hole #4

This is the most difficult par 3 on the course. It plays into a predominate south wind and the diagonal shaped green is guarded on all sides by wide and deep bunkers. Being the #1 handicap hole on the course makes this hole a real challenge.

Caddy Tip:
Keep your tee shot short and left of the pin to give yourself the best chance to make par on this brute of a hole.

Hole #5

Reachable par 5 has a large bunker on the right side of the fairway, and a picturesque lake guarding the left side of the green, framed by two greenside bunkers.

Caddy Tip:
A solid tee shot will leave you with the decision to go for this diagonal shaped green in two, or layup in the generous area short of the green. The south wind off the right will help guide your approach to the undulating green, leaving you a chance to make a great score.

Hole #6

This par 3 plays in the teeth of the south wind. The large green is heavily guarded by three large bunkers. Being short on this hole provides a better chance to make a good score rather than going long and over the green.

Caddy Tip:
Club selection is vital here, as anything missing the green, especially in the bunkers will lead to a tough time getting up and down.

Hole #7

One of the most picturesque holes at Winter Creek is the 7th. The elevated tee plays to a large fairway but beware the large trees guarding the right side of the fairway. The grouping of pot bunkers on the left side of this fairway makes the tee shot very important. The large green is surrounded by large bunkers (are you sensing a trend here?!)

Caddy Tip:
Big hitters can carry the tall trees lining the right side of the fairway and leave a short wedge into the green. Accuracy is the name of the game on this beautiful hole. Keep your approach short of the pin as the green slopes from back to front.

Hole #8

One of the most challenging par 5s on the course, this hole plays downwind to a fairway that slopes from left to right toward the large lake guarding this entire hole, so an accurate tee shot is paramount. The green complex on this hole is very undulating so proper placement is crucial.

Caddy Tip:
Keep your tee shot on the left side of this sloping fairway, as anything leaking right can end up in the lake. This green is guarded by large oak trees in front as well as a large bunker, playing to the left side of the green will filter your ball to the center of the green.

Hole #9

This tough par 4 requires an accurate tee shot, as a lake guards the front of this green and is unable to be seen from the tee. This green slopes drastically from back to front and is guarded by trees on the left as well a large bunker in the front right and left of the green.

Caddy Tip:
Make sure to hit an accurate tee shot that stops short of the lake guarding the green in front. This leads a mid-iron that should ideally be below the hole to give the best chance at a good score.

Hole #10

This long par 5 plays into a primarily south wind and is protected by a heavy tree line on the left and a sizable lake which runs down the entire right side. The green is guarded by two greenside bunkers and has a large undulating green sloping back to front.

Caddy Tip:
Make sure to keep your tee shot on the left side, as this fairway slopes towards the lake on the right. If a layup is required, there is adequate space in front of the green. If you’re feeling bold, an accurate approach will be necessary to hit this green in two!

Hole #11

The shortest of the par 3s, this beautiful hole plays over a green front pond to a sizable green that is guarded in the back by large bunkers. Club selection is of utmost importance to hit this green.

Caddy Tip:
Make sure to pull the right club on this tee shot to insure hitting this green in regulation. Keeping the ball below the hole increases your chances of making a good score as the green undulates from back to front.

Hole #12

This hole may not look very difficult, but don’t let it fool you, it can be a round buster! The tee shot is important here as the fairway is fortified by trees on the left, and a large lake down the entire right side. The green is guarded by an inlet of the lake in front, and a sizeable bunker on the left, if you decide to bail out.

Caddy Tip:
Keep your tee shot on the left side of the fairway, it slopes towards the lake on the right. Your approach shot should be aimed at the left side of the green, as any approach shot will filter right. Make sure to take enough club to hold up to the south wind.

Hole #13

This relatively short par that doglegs sharply to the right, it may look like a simple hole on the scorecard but, it will challenge you. A group of bunkers line the left side of the fairway and will catch any ball headed that direction! A thick tree line runs the length of the right side and is tempting to hit it over the corner. The severely sloped green runs from back to front and is safeguarded by three large bunkers.

Caddy Tip:
A drive in the fairway will be a big help in making a solid score here. On your approach shot, make sure to leave your shot below the pin, as anything above the hole will be a very difficult putt.

Hole #14

A straightforward par 4 that plays predominantly downwind with large bunkers down the right side and a tree line covering the left side. A deep bunker stands guard in front of the green with two others on the left and right.

Caddy Tip:
A tee shot in the large fairway will help set you up for a short iron into the bunker surrounded green. A good score here will be beneficial as you approach the challenging closing stretch of the course.

Hole #15

This hole may be the #2 handicap hole on the scorecard, but to many who play here, it is known as the most difficult hole on the course. This long par 4 plays downhill with a pond at the bottom of the hill that will swallow any tee shot that is hit too far. The approach will require a long iron to a heavily guarded green with a large ridge running down the middle of the green.

Caddy Tip:
Getting through this tough hole unscathed is a big relief and helps your confidence going into the closing holes. Keep your tee shot short of the pond at the bottom of the hill and in the fairway. Making sure you’re committed to your second shot is important to achieving a good swing and leaves it in a good spot to secure a good score.

Hole #16

The 16th is another long par 3 that includes a large undulating green with two levels that require a tee shot to stay on the appropriate level to insure a two putt. The green is surrounded by two large bunkers that make an up and down difficult.

Caddy Tip:
This long par 3 will play downwind most of the time, so make sure you pick the right club. Keeping your ball on the correct level of this large, two-tiered green will be essential to making par.

Hole #17

This long, straight away par 5 plays significantly shorter than the yardage on the scorecard. Playing predominantly downwind and downhill off the tee, long hitters can certainly go for it in two. The challenge of this hole lays around the tricky, elevated, green complex which is guarded by three large bunkers.

Caddy Tip:
This hole provides a good chance to gain a shot back you may have lost on previous holes. A tee shot in the wide fairway can set you up to choose a mid-iron shot on to the green, giving you a chance for birdie.

Hole #18

The signature hole is the 18th, and it’s easy to see why. The tee shot will cross over the lake to the fairway that is guarded by the picturesque lake down the entire left side of this beautiful hole. You may feel the need to bail out on the right, but a large fairway bunker will be there to challenge your tee shot. The green is surrounded on 3 sides by the lake and makes for a challenging approach.

Caddy Tip:
Make sure to keep your tee shot in the fairway here on the closing hole and try and block out the large lake running down the entire left side. The approach shot is equally important and requires precision and accuracy. The bailout is right of the green but beware the large bunker on the right edge of the green. Making par on this challenging hole will make your 19th hole experience that much better!
